Digital Photography by an Enamored Soul Who Appreciates the Medium

All photo posts are summarized on the two categories to the right.

The purpose of this blog is to celebrate the everyman, every day qualities of digital photography.  Digital photography brings accessible quality photography to anyone who wants to visually record the experiences and events in their lives.

Small pocket cameras and cell phone cameras along with email and cell phones capture, store and communicate our experiences to friends and families.

Today digital photography is ubiquitous. If you see it on the Internet, it’s digital.  Why wouldn’t it be the dominant photographic medium?  Scanning old 35 mm. slides and color photography prints requires expensive scanners or the use of outside services. The only application there is for dated or catalogued photography.

Gone are the days of purchasing and carefully storing film in the proper temperature range to preserve it until its use.  Gone is the time spent delivering film for development and then picking it up.  And, gone is the expense of having film developed. Gone is the need to catalogue old paper photographs and 35 mm. slides.

In the last decade the picture quality of digital cameras improved greatly, while their prices have dropped considerably.  Automatic light meters and photo flashes make it easy to get a good exposure. Easy to use software makes it possible to regularly touch up, crop and color correct digital photos.  Consumers can get an adjustable lens camera in just about any price range.

There is a wide range of choice and price of digital cameras on the market today.

Pocket sized cameras have a range of 2-5 million pixels resolution, while the larger single lens digital (SLD) cameras can exceed 8 million pixels. Internet displays and cell phone and email transmission of photos call for smaller photo file sizes, while high resolution color printing of digital images requires larger files with higher resolutions.

Consumers can use the inexpensive, high resolution inkjet color printers they have at home, or they can upload their images via the Web to very high resolution, large format printers.

This blog explores the digital photography medium and common, everyday themes and how they have been captured by individuals using digital photography.  It will also present tips, advice and links to resources to find answers about Digital Photography topics.

If you would like to make comments about digital photography or would like to offer a post or photos, please do so.

Thank you,

An Enamored Soul
